When to call 101
To make sure you call 101 and get help from the right organisation it is important you understand what you can call about.
There are eight main areas covered by 101:
- Vandalism, graffiti and other deliberate damage
- Noise nuisance – like noisy neighbours or burglar alarms
- Threatening or abusive behaviour – like verbal abuse or neighbour disputes
- Vehicle related ASB – like abandoned vehicles or mini motos
- Rubbish and litter – like fly tipping or dead animals
- Drunk and rowdy behaviour – like drinking in the street or ball games played where they shouldn’t be
- Drug related ASB – like discarded needles or youths smoking cannabis
- Street lighting – like broken lights

If it is to report assault, burgluary or theft or any other police non-emergency, you can call 08456 043 043 and someone will help.
If you want to report something to 101 and you live in Northumberland and Tyne and Wear, but are out of the area, you can dial 0191 203 7000 for the same service.
